Rome, Spring 2011
A record of my findings (and probably of most of my dumb moments) as I journey through my study abroad program in Rome.

Here is the program description:
Sociology in Rome - Spring 2011
Christianity in Rome: Church vs. Empire, Church As Empire

The Christian church began as a small group of people who gave up material comforts, status and even their personal safety, to preach peace and care for the poor and outcast. This message was deeply at odds with the values of the Roman Empire, which responded with vicious persecutions. In the course of a few centuries, however, the tables were turned: Christianity became first tolerated, then the official religion of Empire. In a time that knew no separation of church and state, the church became the dominant temporal power in Europe, and carried out its persecutions on critics without and within.

Hawaii, September 2012
The first Dao family vacation since 1999/2000. We're renting out a house for a week. It's going to be insane. You're going to see lots of pictures of nature, sunsets, and the ocean. Maybe a family photo or two. And hopefully not too many rants about how my family drives me crazy.

Boston, November 2012
A spontaneous weekend trip to Boston to catch one of the reunion shows of The Hush Sound, the only break up that I claim I have never quite gotten over. A high chance of tears and slightly inebriated singing is in the forecast. With a short trip and only two travellers, my Lizard and I are going to have a tight agenda full of thrills. Expect to read reviews on pubs and restaurants, funny stories, and our couchsurfing adventures.

Rio de Janeiro, July 2013
